Increasing Rolling Shear Properties of Cross Laminated Timber by Subdividing Cross Layers
Andrew’s research explores methods of increasing the rolling shear strength of CLT made out of Eastern Hemlock, a species very common to western Massachusetts. Improving rolling shear strength of the panels is important to improve panel performance in highly concentrated loading scenarios. Previous research has indicated that reducing laminate thickness might improve rolling shear strength; this research will now quantitatively measure this phenomenon. Should there be evidence that adjusting laminate thickness improves panel performance this research can help pave the way for a dependable, locally sourced, and cost effective CLT product.
