On Friday 19 April 2013, students in the Arboriculture & Community Forestry program worked with the University’s Landscape Services crews to plant trees along Massachusetts Ave. at the west entrance to campus. The planting was part of the University’s Sesquicentennial Celebration which includes planting 150 trees. A few different species (bur and black oaks and black tupelos) will be planted along Massachusetts Ave. Additional trees will be planted at other locations on campus, including along Eastman Lane. Gary Glazier, the project supervisor, was glad to have the help, and Dr. Kane noted, “The students know the right way to plant trees and they’re really hard workers. Properly planting species that are well suited to the site increases the likelihood that these trees will thrive. We’re always happy to help out with campus beautification.”
