Congratulations to Anita Milman and colleagues for their recent NSF grant award! This is for a project titled "Connecting Coastal Communities with Continuous, Sensor-Based Monitoring of Water Quality" that coordinates with the Woodwell Climate Science Center, Buzzards Bay Watershed Coalition and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
Congratulations to Nate Senner for his recent NSF grant award! This is for a project titled "Predicting novel interactions between parasitic botflies and high-elevation deer mice under climate change" that coordinates with the University of Denver and the University of Montana.
ECo alumnus and UMass sustainability scientist Jared Starr has new research asking: "How much carbon pollution does it takes to create wealth for the richest Americans?" The answer: A lot! The study is getting coverage on CNN, Fortune, Salon, and other venues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgA0UgSEDjI
Katrina Zarrella Smith, OEB PhD student and member of the ECo community, was awarded a NMFS-Sea Grant Population and Ecosystem Dynamics Fellowship! Since 1999, just over 120 individuals have been awarded this fellowship and it is a first for UMass Amherst. This comes with dedicated mentorship from one of the nation's leading NOAA Fisheries Biologists and significant support to expand my work and reach, as well as amplifying it on the NOAA platform.
