Savage Hill Hardwood

Emeritus faculty Drs. Bob Bond and Bill MacConnell generously donated 234 acres in Princeton, Massachusetts to the Department in 2002. The property has been intensively managed for sawlog and cordwood production by Bond and MacConnell. The area represents a wonderful opportunity to provide students an excellent example of intensively managed stands in Southern New England and we will continue intensive forest management on the property. It is dominated by oaks and pines with a small component of hemlock and birch. The Savage Hill Forest is adjacent to the Savage Hill Wildlife Management Area and is approximately 1 hour from campus.

Directions to Savage Hill Forest:

Take the Gardner exit off of Rte 2 and go south on Rt. 68 through Hubbardston. Turn east on Rt. 62, and go past the Savage Hill Wildlife Management Area. Take a hard right onto Old Colony Rd. Extension. The gate to the property is on the left at the end of the road.
