The UMass student chapter of the Society of American Foresters’ quiz bowl team of Monika Sowinska, Eric Brown, Collin Oliver, and Kevin Surdam won the 2016 quiz bowl at the recent New England Society of American Foresters annual conference.    Each year, schools from around the region, including the University of Maine, University of New Hampshire, University of Vermont, and Paul Smith’s College compete in a Jeopardy style quiz bowl tournament.  Categories include forest ecology, insects and disease, policy, tree identification, silviculture, and timber harvesting.    The UMass team dominated in the tournament handily beating the University of New Hampshire in the first round and the University of Vermont in the finals.   The team was supported by an enthusiastic group of UMass students in attendance.   The quiz bowl trophy was proudly displayed at the alumni social the following night and impressed all those in attendance.   Congratulations Monika, Eric, Collin, and Kevin!  Thank you for representing UMass so well!...
