UMass Forestry Alumni and Students Socialize at the 90th Annual Meeting of the New England Society of American Foresters

Several hundred foresters met in Nashua, New Hampshire at the 90th annual New England SAF meeting, and UMass alumni and students took time to enjoy refreshments together. UMass Forestry Students Win Society of American Foresters Quiz Bowl Again

On March 10, UMass Forestry students were again victorious, winning the New England Quiz Bowl competition defeating teams from UNH and Paul Smith's College at the 90th annual meeting of the New England Society of American Foresters (NESAF) in Nashua, New Hampshire. The UMass team previously won the Quiz Bowl in 2009 at the NESAF meeting in Portland, Maine, and successfully defended their title in 2010. The Quiz Bowl competition is modeled after the Jeopardy game show, with student teams competing to correctly answer questions pertaining to forestry, wildlife, and other natural resource topics. UMass team members Justin Renaud, Robert Herrick, and Jeff Hutchins responded quickly and confidently with correct answers resulting in the victory.                                                                ...

NRC’s Family Forest Research Center Team Expands

The Family Forest Research Center, a collaborative effort between the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Department of Natural Resources Conservation has recently expanded, adding three Forest Service Researchers to its collaborative national team. The goal of the FFRC is to conduct relevant research that helps understand the social and economic dimensions of family forestry in order to promote sustainable forest management that meets the current and future needs of landowners, communities, and society.
