Primary interests
My research focus is on the life-history and fish passage of big-river migratory fishes, including migration, habitat selection, and ontogenetic behavior, as well as new designs for passing migratory fishes up- and downstream at hydrodams. My colleagues and I study sturgeon species in North America, Asia, and in Europe, and a variety of fishes in Brazil . We document natural migration patterns and habitat preferences to conserve migratory fishes where rivers are dammed.
Current Projects
Effects of siltation from road building on spawning substrate and comparative substrate type in ten spawning sites of shortnose sturgeon
Annual movements of a population of sturgeons dam-locked for 150 years
Effect of illumination intensity on selection of water velocity habitats by american shad, blueback herring, alewives, and striped bass
Spatial distribution and ecology of the juvenile American shad and blueback herring outmigration
Behavior of upstream migrant Americana shad in fishways
Behavior of spent American shad in a louver bypass system
Ecology and abundance cycles of spawning sea lampreys
Habitats and production of juvenile Atlantic salmon in typical and nontypical salmon streams
Movements and ecology of adult Chinese sturgeon in the Yangtse River
- Abundance, age, and growth of outmigrant juvenile Reeves shad
