The visit was supported by TUBITAK, Turkey’s counterpart of the National Science Foundation, which aims to strengthen efforts in climate and landscape research in the country.

Randhir addressed several research groups at Istanbul University on advanced modeling techniques in landscape modeling and evaluating climatic impacts in watershed ecosystem services. One of the projects included long-term, paired watershed experiments in Turkey studying forest hydrology in headwater catchments. The visit involved development of research into protecting water supplies of the city of Istanbul using landscape-level changes to protect water quality. Through interaction with scientists from Istanbul University of Istanbul and Suleyman Demiril University of Isparta, collaborative research in climatic change impacts on urbanizing landscapes and forest ecosystems was developed during his trip.
